Retaining Wall Materials
Retaining walls can be categorized in many ways. The most common is by their construction, which can be further classified into gravity, semi-gravity, cantilever, and counterfort walls. Each of these has its respective strengths and weaknesses, as well as special applications. For now, our focus is categorizing them based on the material used.
Stone Retaining Wall
This wall is built using natural stones, usually granite and limestone. The best thing about using such stones is the aesthetics appeal. Who can never be astonished by the naturally beautiful color and texture of stones stacked together to create a lovely outdoor wall surface. The problem with this, however, is that stones are expensive. That's understandable since they are the most durable choice. But apart from that, natural stones need special cutting and installation process to make them fit for the retaining walls. The entire process of installing stone retaining wall can take a lot of time, effort, and money. But all of these are reasonable in the long run.
Concrete Retaining Walls
Here, we're referring to poured concrete retaining walls, which are different from the concrete block retaining wall. The great thing with poured concrete is that installation is fast and easy. This type is the cheapest solution, too. The only drawback is they are not ideal for large walls. When they crack, repair can be more expensive than installation
Block Retaining Walls
These are commonly known as segmental block retaining walls. These blocks are also made out of concrete, but they are pre-casted and pre-shaped for the sole purpose of building retaining walls. They have the durability and beauty of natural stone retaining wall and the easy installation of poured concrete retaining walls.
Every type is best for its specific application. We'll help you choose the best, design it well, and install it right the first time.
Our Retaining Wall Installation
At Sunview Landscape, we highly recommend the use of segmental blocks for our retaining walls installation. Such blocks have unique features that make them easy to stack. Blocks can't be shaken even with a quake. When blocks crack, you simply have to replace the broken parts, and not the entire wall.
All of these types of retaining walls, however you may categorize them, are great as long as they are used correctly and installed properly. At Sunview Landscape, we survey our client's area first to know the appropriate type of wall needed by the landscape. We only proceed with the construction after careful assessment and planning. Most importantly, proper collaboration with the clients is done to ensure their preferences and needs are taken into consideration during the design phase.
We have already built several stone and block retaining walls in Phoenix, Buckeye, Avondale, and nearby areas in Arizona. If you want to get the same premium services from us, contact us now.
